Shares of the Santa Clara, California-based company have fallen 12.7% from its 52-week high of $293.81. AMD stock has declined 10.1% over the past three months, lagging behind the Dow Jones Industrials Average's ($DOWI) 5.7% rise over the same time frame.

AMD stock has climbed 117.4% on a YTD basis, surpassing the DOWI's 11.4% gain. In the longer term, shares of the chipmaker have increased 176.2% over the past 52 weeks, compared to DOWI's 17.4% return over the same time frame.

The stock has been trading above its 200-day moving average since mid-April.

Advanced Micro Devices has outperformed over the past year as its EPYC server CPUs are gaining data-center share, benefiting from both traditional cloud demand and the AI infrastructure buildout. Its AI GPU opportunity is expanding, with major deployments such as OpenAI's multi-year AMD Instinct agreement creating a potentially huge new revenue stream.

In comparison, AMD stock has outperformed its rival, NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA). BDX stock has gained 20.8% over the past 52 weeks and 16.7% on a YTD basis.

Due to Advanced Micro Devices' strong performance over the past year, analysts remain bullish about its prospects. The stock has a consensus rating of "Strong Buy" from the 46 analysts covering it, and the mean price target of $621.83 is a premium of 33.6% to current levels.
