Arizona Gold & Silver appoints Yale Simpson as independent director

Arizona Gold & Silver Inc (TSX-V:AZS, OTCQB:AZASF, FRA:A9J0) has named Yale Simpson to its board as an independent director, effective immediately, expanding a role he had already held informally as a company advisor.

A geologist and entrepreneur with roughly 40 years in the mining industry, Simpson has worked across Australia, Africa, Eastern Europe and South America, focusing on resource strategy, financing and investor communications. He previously co-founded and chaired Exeter Resource Corporation, later bought by Goldcorp (now Newmont), and Extorre Resources, later bought by Yamana Gold (TSX:YRI, LSE:AUY) (now Pan American Silver).

CEO Mike Stark credited Simpson's background in domestic and international leadership roles and his prior support of the company as an advisor.

"We feel very fortunate to welcome Yale Simpson with his considerable experience in executive and leadership positions in both domestic and international jurisdictions," Stark told shareholders.

For his part, Simpson pointed to the company's Philadelphia Project in Arizona and its technical team as reasons for taking on a bigger role.

"My increased involvement in AZS is due to two factors: firstly, the Philadelphia Project is a spectacular Arizona gold discovery with an upside that is being demonstrated by the week," Simpson said.

"Secondly the management team has technical know-how to delineate and expand the discovery while communicating that potential to capital markets. Importantly, I really enjoy working with the team."
