Could Pegasystems (PEGA) Stock Win as Enterprises Rethink How they Deploy AI?

On August 18, Pegasystems Inc. (NASDAQ: PEGA ) announced responsible AI advancements and a strategic partnership with Gryphon. The expansion centers on the general availability of Pega Customer Engagement Studio within Pega Customer Decision Hub. Built into the Pega Infinity 26 release, the software allows teams to build campaigns using natural-language AI while maintaining audit trails. Meanwhile, Gryphon provides a discrete outreach compliance layer to ensure real-time adherence to contact regulations such as TCPA, DNC, and FDCPA.

This raises a core question: Is market confusion around AI integration temporarily slowing enterprise buying cycles, or will sales execution hurdles prevent Pegasystems Inc. (NASDAQ:PEGA) from fully monetizing its cloud transition?

Bears point to sales execution gaps and modest top-line growth. Underperformance in prospecting and expansion motions has led to a shortfall in net new ACV, forcing the company to rely on a heavily back-loaded second-half renewal cycle. While cloud ACV expands, declining maintenance and legacy license revenues drag on overall growth. Furthermore, net income compression and flat year-to-date total revenues ($850.7 million vs $860.1 million in H1 2025) suggest that margin gains may face headwinds if sales initiatives demand higher operational spending.

According to Insider Monkey's database, 35 hedge funds held positions in Pegasystems in Q2 2026, down from 41 in Q1 2026, reflecting moderate institutional profit-taking. AQR Capital Management (Cliff Asness) stands as the top fund holder with 4,919,642 shares ($147.4 million value) after increasing its stake by 9%. Arrowstreet Capital increased its stake by 227% to hold 2,018,528 shares ($60.5 million value).

While we acknowledge the potential of PEGA as an investment, we believe certain AI stocks offer greater upside potential and carry less downside risk.
