NCL Research & Financial Services targets digital personal lending market
The Indian non-banking financial company has approved a strategic shift into retail credit, aiming to diversify revenue and tap into the country's expanding digital finance sector.
NCL Research & Financial Services has approved a strategic expansion into the personal lending segment. The move is contingent upon receiving applicable regulatory approvals and completing necessary statutory and corporate formalities.
The proposed lending business will initially target digital personal loans, salary-based loans, and consumer finance solutions for self-employed professionals. To support these operations, the board also approved incorporating a wholly owned subsidiary focused on developing fintech software and technology solutions.
Management plans to leverage technology-driven underwriting, digital onboarding, and data analytics to build a scalable lending platform. The company emphasized that this expansion will be executed while maintaining prudent credit standards and complying with all Reserve Bank of India regulations.
This pivot is designed to diversify the company’s revenue streams and generate recurring interest income. Analysts at NCL Research note that the strategy aims to improve long-term returns on capital by capitalizing on India's rapidly growing retail credit market. The transition represents a significant shift for the firm as it builds a scalable fintech-led lending platform.
The board highlighted that India's retail credit sector is positioned for sustained expansion. This growth is being driven by increasing digital adoption, broader financial inclusion, rising consumer spending, and the ongoing formalisation of credit across the economy.
To facilitate this transition, the board approved amendments to the company's Main Object Clause in its Memorandum of Association, pending shareholder approval. Key management personnel have been authorized to complete regulatory filings, appoint advisers, and execute necessary agreements to implement the proposed business.
Investors reacted cautiously to the corporate update. Shares of NCL Research & Financial Services opened at ₹0.79 apiece on the Bombay Stock Exchange on Wednesday. The stock fell nearly 4 percent in early trade before recovering some losses to trade about 2 percent lower later in the session.
