Oyetola says deeper ports will boost Nigeria’s maritime revenue, trade

Oyetola said the port modernisation programme formed part of broader efforts to unlock Nigeria’s marine resources for economic growth, adding that the country was blessed with significant marine assets. The minister noted that Nigeria had about 853 kilometres of coastline and about 10,000 kilometres of inland waterways, stressing that the resources remained assets that needed to be properly harnessed. He also highlighted progress in fisheries, maritime safety and security, saying fish production had increased from about 1.3 million to 1.5 million, while measures were being implemented to reduce boat mishaps on the country’s inland waterways. Also speaking, Bola Oyebamiji, the APC governorship candidate in the August 15 governorship election in Osun State, thanked Oyetola for his mentorship and support. Oyebamiji prayed for longevity, good health and continued blessings for the minister, while appreciating him for what he described as his generosity towards indigent people and members of the party.
