Eno seeks stronger collaboration with PHED to ensure steady power supply in Akwa Ibom

Umo Eno, Akwa Ibom State Governor, has called for closer collaboration between the state government and the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Plc to deliver steady and reliable electricity to Akwa Ibom people.

Eno, who stated this Friday, when he received the Board and management of PHED on a courtesy visit to him in Government House, Uyo, noted that reliable electricity is central to the success of the ARISE Agenda of his administration.

He said the State’s gas resources, generation capacity, and industrial potential to attract investments and drive growth, and the call depends on reliable power to function’

The Governor further said electricity supply goes hand in hand with the state electricity policy, and therefore, tasked PHED to review its strategy in the State in line with the State electricity policy.

He assured the electricity body that the Government was prepared to work with it, stressing that the State had set up a regulatory commission to provide firm, transparent and predictable regulations, and set expectations for investment, while enabling credible operators in a thriving state of electricity market.

The Governor urged PHED to comply with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission on the transfer order of 18th August 2026, by incorporating an Akwa Ibom Disco.

It would be recalled that on 18th August 2026, NERC issued Order No. NERC/2026/087, transferring regulatory oversight of the intrastate electricity market in Akwa Ibom State to the Akwa Ibom State Electricity Regulatory Commission, under section 230 of the Electricity Act, 2023.

Earlier, Olive Kemenanabo, the Board Chairman of PHED PLC, commended Governor Eno for his visionary and impactful leadership, and his commitment to ensure improved electricity and more significant economic growth in the State.

He said the Board was in the State for their meeting, which he said was the first outside the company’s corporate headquarters in Port Harcourt, and decided to pay homage to the Governor.

Kemenanabo pledged the company’s commitment to collaborate with the State government towards improving electricity service delivery and achieving reliable and uninterrupted power supply across the State.

The Governor was received by Enobong Uwah, Secretary to the State Government, Aniefiok Johnson, the Executive Assistant and Chief Delivery Advisor to the Governor; and Arit Okon Uya, Chairman/CEO, Akwa Ibom State Electricity Regulatory Commission, AKSERC, amongst others.
