US Mint’s Trump gold coin available, but sold out with no gold in sight

The coin was launched to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, featuring Trump in a gold-coloured coin.

The US Mint launched a new one-dollar coin that features President Donald Trump to celebrate the 250th anniversary of American independence.

The new coin, announced in July, became available for public purchase on Sept. 2, selling out hours later on that day.

Trump is the first sitting US President to be featured on a coin while still in office.

While other American personalities faced restrictions around being featured in coins while still living, the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act of 2020 gave permission for any living or deceased individual to appear on the obverse side of the coin for the 250th Independence anniversary celebration.

While marketed as a gold coin, Trump’s coins are gold-coloured but do not contain any gold.

The coins are made of a mix of primarily copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese, and 2% nickel, according to the US Mint.

This composition gives the coins their gold hue while keeping their value lower than the gold coins sold by the US Mint for $5,350. Trump’s coin can be found for $61 in packs of 25.

While the coins have circulating finishes, that have never been put in circulation before. The US Mint is marketing the coins as collectibles, but they can also be used as legal tender.

This coin is just part of a broader program to celebrate the 250th independence anniversary, with products launching and available for purchase throughout 2026. Some of them include palladium, gold, and silver coins with prices varying between $56 and $19,600.

Letšeng’s high-value diamonds and lower costs help the miner recover despite persistent weakness across the broader market.
