BitGo to acquire NYDIG institutional trading business for capital markets expansion

Crypto custodian BitGo is acquiring the institutional trading business of NYDIG to expand its capital markets services and consolidate its position in digital asset trading infrastructure.

BitGo has reached an agreement to purchase the institutional trading division of NYDIG, a source familiar with the situation confirmed on August 27. The acquisition allows the digital asset custodian to significantly broaden its capabilities and strengthen its foothold within trading infrastructure.

The transaction will transfer approximately 30 NYDIG staff members to BitGo, along with 250 established institutional client relationships. By integrating these specific assets, BitGo will add derivatives, structured products, and financing to its current service offerings. These new capital markets services will directly complement its existing settlement, custody, and wallet infrastructure units, creating a more comprehensive platform.

NYDIG’s institutional trading unit primarily serves family offices and institutional investors, focusing heavily on derivatives and financing. BitGo, which was founded in 2013, currently ranks among the largest crypto custody firms operating in the United States. The company successfully went public earlier this year, generating roughly $213 million in proceeds through its initial public offering to fund future growth.

This corporate consolidation occurs as cryptocurrencies achieve greater mainstream prominence across global financial markets. The broader digital asset class has recently benefited from a more favorable political environment under the Trump administration. This environment has encouraged traditional financial firms and investors to deepen their involvement with digital assets.

The integration of these specific capital markets services indicates a clear strategic shift for the combined entity and its clients. Market participants increasingly require unified platforms that seamlessly bridge secure asset storage with active, sophisticated trading capabilities. By absorbing the specialized institutional desk, BitGo positions itself to capture a larger share of ongoing institutional capital flows in the digital asset space.
