Globacom deploys AI, dealer incentives to defend Nigerian share
Globacom is leveraging financial incentives for distributors and a new AI assistant to protect its subscriber base in Nigeria’s fiercely competitive telecom market.
Globacom honoured 115 top-performing dealers at its 2026 Partners’ Reward Gala in Lagos. The company distributed millions of naira in cash and vehicles to partners who drove subscriber sales between January and June.
The heavy spending on dealer incentives underscores a critical strategy in Nigeria’s fiercely competitive telecom sector. As network quality improves across the industry, operators can no longer rely solely on infrastructure to win subscribers. Controlling physical retail channels has become essential for driving growth, with dealers like Ademola Akinlabi of Demmy Global Resources noting that the financial rewards serve as vital motivation to sustain sales momentum.
To complement this physical distribution network, Globacom introduced Gloria, an artificial intelligence voice assistant integrated into its Glo Café digital platform. The tool supports six languages and is designed to improve customer engagement by providing faster, more personalised assistance.
The operator is also deepening its digital product suite to maximise subscriber lifetime value and fend off rival networks. An expansion of the "Borrow Me Credit" service ensures users remain connected even when their balances hit zero, preventing them from migrating to competitors. This is paired with a "More Data More Value" pricing proposition aimed at securing data-heavy users.
These product launches are backed by a commitment to continued capital expenditure. Speaking at the event, Abdul Rasaq Ande, Globacom’s cluster head for Lagos 2, highlighted the company's 23-year operational history as proof of its staying power. “We will continue to invest heavily in next-generation technologies, upgrade our infrastructure and ensure that our network remains second to none,” he said.
For investors, the strategy illustrates the dual infrastructure required in emerging market telecoms. Advanced technologies like AI are being deployed not to replace traditional models, but to protect them. “Our partners have, over the years, been the bedrock of the Globacom ecosystem, and their success is our success,” Ande noted, signalling that digital innovation and on-the-ground distribution will remain tightly linked as the fight for market share intensifies.
