Valmont raises outlook as grid demand drives Q2 profit surge

Valmont Industries raised its full-year guidance after second-quarter results showed infrastructure sales tied to data center and grid modernization offsetting persistent weakness in agriculture.

Valmont Industries beat second-quarter expectations and raised its full-year outlook, driven by a surge in infrastructure demand tied to data centers and grid modernization. Net sales grew 6.5% to $1.12 billion, while adjusted earnings per share jumped 25.8% to $6.14.

The growth was heavily concentrated in the company's Infrastructure segment, which is capitalizing on the physical buildout required for artificial intelligence and power generation. North America Utility sales soared 33.9% and Coatings revenue increased 16.6%. "Infrastructure delivered another high-quality quarter," CEO Avner Applbaum said, adding that "commercial execution, pricing discipline and investments in capacity and throughput helped convert customer demand into profitable growth."

For market professionals and investors, the primary takeaway is the confirmation of a multiyear investment cycle that extends beyond a single quarter. Management explicitly linked the demand to grid modernization, broader power needs and data center construction. This structural tailwind provides a predictable revenue floor that reduces Valmont's historical reliance on volatile agricultural commodity cycles.

The Agriculture segment continues to face severe macro headwinds. Segment sales fell 15.8% due to cautious North American farm spending and conflict-related project delays in the Middle East. Despite the volume drop, the unit's operating margin actually improved to 16.5% as aggressive cost discipline protected profitability. Valmont still expects full-year agriculture sales to hold steady, assuming no further deterioration in geopolitical conditions.

At the consolidated level, the operational leverage was evident. Operating income reached $166.1 million, pushing the operating margin up 130 basis points to 14.8%. The tax rate held steady at roughly 26%.

By extracting higher margins from a sluggish agriculture market while scaling its infrastructure business, Valmont is successfully rebalancing its portfolio. The raised full-year guidance signals management's confidence that utility infrastructure demand will continue to outpace agricultural headwinds through the remainder of the fiscal year.
