Republic Bank Director Resigns on 15 Oct

Edward Ince, a director of Republic Bank Ltd in Trinidad and Tobago, resigned effective 15 October. No reason or successor has been published. The post Republic Bank Director Resigns on 15 Oct appeared first on The Rio Times .

A Republic Bank director, Edward Ince, resigned with effect from Thursday 15 October 2026, a public notice published on Tuesday 20 October shows. Ince sat on the board of Republic Bank Ltd, the Trinidad and Tobago bank of Republic Financial Holdings Ltd (RFHL), and the Trinidad Guardian reported the notice on 20 October.

For US readers the notice is one more leadership change at a regional banking group headquartered in Port of Spain, which that newspaper calls the region’s largest financial services company. It follows a week in which RFHL lost its chief executive in waiting, and state-linked shareholders hold a majority of its shares.

The notice, as that report describes it, gives no reason for the resignation, and no successor for the seat has been named. This article therefore sticks to what the notice and the news coverage document, and it does not link the resignation to any other event.

Our Company Intelligence profile, Republic Financial Holdings Limited , tracks the group, whose shares trade on the Trinidad and Tobago Stock Exchange under the ticker RFHL. Earlier coverage in Trinidad Banking Row Follows 14 Oct CEO Exit covers the chief executive change and the political argument around it.

The report said that Republic Bank published the notice under Section 64(1)(b) of the Securities Act 2012. It was issued by Kimberly Erriah-Ali, the group’s general counsel and corporate secretary, and states that Ince’s departure took effect on 15 October 2026.

The same report said the notice was formally published in the newspapers on 20 October and that Republic Bank had not yet disclosed a successor for the seat. The notice, as described, gives no reason for the departure.

Republic Bank Ltd is the group’s subsidiary in Trinidad and Tobago, while RFHL is the holding company that sits above it. A director sits on the board that oversees management, so the departure leaves a vacancy and does not change who runs the bank day to day.

Ince’s resignation took effect the day after Richard Sammy, the group’s chief executive in waiting, left RFHL on Wednesday 14 October 2026. RFHL’s notice of Sammy’s exit to the stock exchange is dated Friday 16 October, while the Trinidad Express wrote on 16 October that the group had announced it “yesterday”.

Sammy had joined the group on 1 March 2009 and was chosen on 30 January 2026 to succeed chief executive Nigel Baptiste, who retires on 1 January 2027. The Express wrote that it understands Sammy neither resigned nor was dismissed, and that the departure was the result of a mutual agreement.

RFHL named Karen Yip Chuck, another of its three group vice-presidents, as incoming president and chief executive from 1 January 2027, subject to regulatory approval. Its exchange notices add that Parasram (Vic) Salickram becomes senior group vice-president and David Robinson group vice-president from the same date, also subject to approval.

Neither newspaper links Ince’s resignation to Sammy’s exit, and the newspaper says only that his departure follows a shake-up in the group’s executive succession plan. A sequence in time is not evidence of a cause.

RFHL’s 2025 annual report lists the National Investment Fund Holding Company Ltd as its largest shareholder with 29.92%, followed by the National Insurance Board (NIB), the state social-insurance agency, with 18.81%. The Express reported on 16 October that NIB had raised its stake to 21.5% the previous month after buying a further 4.43 million shares.

A November 2025 report in the same newspaper said that three government-controlled holders, including the Minister of Finance’s Corporation Sole with 2.70%, together owned 51.43% of the 163,833,584 shares in issue. That majority lets the State nominate most of the board.

Finance Minister Davendranath Tancoo said in his budget speech of 13 October 2025 that the Government would move to install a majority of directors at Republic Bank Limited, the newspaper reported. The annual report shows three Government nominees, Yashmid Karamath, Dr Timothy Affonso and Nalini Bansee, joined the RFHL board on 14 October 2025, and the Express names Karamath as RFHL chairman.

RFHL shares closed at TT$114.00 (about US$16.90) on the Trinidad and Tobago Stock Exchange on Tuesday 20 October 2026, up TT$0.04 (0.04%) on the day. A total of 10,945 shares changed hands, worth TT$1,247,730 (about US$185,000).

At that price the 163,833,584 shares in issue at the 2025 annual report are worth about TT$18.68 billion (about US$2.77 billion), which is our own calculation. A change of 0.04% is small, and no source ties the share price to the notice.

Dollar conversions in this article use about TT$6.75 per US dollar, the middle of the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago’s buying rate of 6.7279 and selling rate of 6.7773 on 19 October 2026. The US$ figures are therefore approximate.

US investors with exposure to Caribbean banks should read the notice as a governance detail, because one director has gone, the seat is empty and no reason is public. The bigger questions for holders of RFHL shares are who leads the group from 1 January 2027 and how much influence the state shareholders exert.

The sources reviewed report no change to accounts, branches or services at Republic Bank because of the resignation. Our guides Trinidad and Tobago Explained and Moving to Trinidad and Tobago 2026, Step by Step cover daily life for visitors and residents.

The political argument over the bank’s leadership is covered in our earlier report , where former prime minister Stuart Young’s claims of interference remain allegations. No source reviewed connects those claims to Ince’s resignation, and our guide Trinidad and Tobago in Latin America, Role and Alliances explains the wider setting.

The notice, as that report describes it, gives no reason for Ince’s resignation, and no successor has been named. It is also not known when Ince joined the board or who nominated him, so his seat is not shown to be a Government seat.

We could not open the notice itself, so the date and wording rest on that newspaper’s report of it. The exchange’s news page showed no notice on Ince, and we found no second outlet carrying the resignation by the evening of 20 October.

That newspaper and the exchange notice date the group’s confirmation of Sammy’s exit to 16 October, while the Express, writing on 16 October, says RFHL announced it the day before. We therefore give the notice date and the effective date of 14 October, and no earlier announcement date.

No source says whether more directors will leave, or whether regulators have yet approved Karen Yip Chuck as chief executive. The exchange data reviewed cover only 20 October, so they cannot show a trend.

Edward Ince, a director of Republic Bank Ltd, the Trinidad and Tobago bank of RFHL. His resignation took effect on 15 October 2026.

A public notice was published in Trinidad and Tobago newspapers on Tuesday 20 October 2026. It states that the departure took effect on Thursday 15 October.

No reason has been published in the coverage reviewed. Neither newspaper links the departure to Richard Sammy’s exit.

The sources do not say so, although both happened in the same week. The newspaper says only that Ince’s exit follows a shake-up in the group’s executive succession plan.

Three government-controlled holders owned 51.43% at the 2025 annual report, led by the National Investment Fund with 29.92%. The Express reported that the National Insurance Board has since raised its own stake to 21.5%.
