Onramp Report Calls Bitcoin Price Slump a Buying Opportunity
A new report from custody firm Onramp argues that bitcoin’s divergence from record-high equities and gold is a signal to accumulate the asset directly, warning that wrapped products introduce dangerous counterparty risks.
Bitcoin custody firm Onramp has published a July 2026 report titled “Back to Basics” arguing that the cryptocurrency’s current price level—sitting at roughly half of its late-2025 peak—represents a strategic accumulation opportunity. The firm explicitly contrasts bitcoin’s underperformance with the record highs currently seen in equities and gold markets.
For traditional assets, such a stark divergence from a broad market rally would typically signal underlying structural weakness. Onramp contends the opposite is true for bitcoin, framing its fixed supply of 21 million coins and early-stage global adoption as reasons a lower price actually works in the buyer’s favor.
The report builds its case on ten core ideas, primarily focusing on monetary integrity. It positions fiat currencies as inherently flawed because their expanding supply systematically degrades the purchasing power of existing holders. Against this backdrop, Onramp casts bitcoin’s hard supply cap as a verifiable constraint that does not rely on institutional trust.
The firm also addresses bitcoin’s notorious volatility, treating drawdowns of fifty percent or more as a standard feature of an asset still undergoing monetization. It points to historical data showing that every previous major decline ultimately gave way to a recovery that surpassed the former peak.
However, the report’s most pointed argument for institutional and professional investors targets what it terms “paper bitcoin.” Onramp warns that fund shares, exchange balances, and structured products often track the price but introduce layers of custodians and counterparties. These intermediaries can fail for reasons entirely separate from bitcoin’s core network performance.
Direct ownership preserves what Onramp calls bitcoin’s bearer quality, eliminating the risk of account freezes or third-party reclamation. The firm advocates for investors to either pursue self-custody or adopt multi-institution custody models. This latter approach splits cryptographic keys across independent institutions, ensuring no single point of failure can result in the loss of funds.
That argument doubles as a commercial pitch for Onramp, which has raised $12.5 million to scale a multi-institution custody platform. The firm has integrated cash, bitcoin, and gold into a single account structure designed to mitigate the exact counterparty risks the report outlines.
On the question of market timing, Onramp advises a mechanical approach over reactive trading, pointing to dollar-cost averaging as the preferred strategy. It notes the present cycle is roughly seven months past its peak, marking a shallower and earlier stage of decline than equivalent points in previous market cycles.
The firm concludes that bitcoin’s foundational fundamentals remain completely unaffected by the recent price correction. In Onramp’s view, acquiring a fixed-supply asset at a discount during a period of expanding adoption simply means the underlying investment thesis is operating as intended.
