The Federal Ministry of Education (FME) has disowned an association operating under the name National Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of the Federal Unity Colleges, saying the group is not recognised by the Ministry and does not represent the individual PTAs in the 117 Federal Unity Colleges across the country. The Ministry, in a statement signed by Boriowo Folasade, its Director of Press and Public Relations, on Tuesday, said it had neither recognised nor authorised the association to speak on behalf of the colleges, their PTAs, parents or guardians. It consequently urged parents, guardians and members of the public to disregard any statement, directive, appeal or communication issued by the association. “The Ministry has neither recognised nor authorised the association to speak on behalf of the Colleges, their PTAs, parents or guardians. Consequently, any statement, directive, appeal or communication issued by the association has no official standing and should be disregarded and ignored by parents, guardians and members of the public,” the statement read According to the Ministry, parents and guardians should rely exclusively on official communications from the Federal Ministry of Education and the management of their respective Federal Unity Colleges on matters relating to the schools, students and school activities. The clarification comes as the 2026/2027 academic session has commenced nationwide. Meanwhile, Maruf Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, has urged parents and guardians to ensure that their children and wards are in their respective Federal Unity Colleges as the new academic session gets underway. The Minister, on behalf of the Ministry, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to the effective administration of the Federal Unity Colleges and the provision of a conducive learning environment for students. He also assured that the Ministry would continue to provide the necessary support for students’ academic and overall development throughout the 2026/2027 academic session. The Ministry reiterated that parents and guardians should obtain information concerning the Federal Unity Colleges only through recognised and official channels to avoid being misled by unauthorised bodies.
