Novo Nordisk Shares Fall 6% as Drugmaker Outlines Growth Targets Through 2030

Novo Nordisk (NYSE:NVO) shares declined 6% on Monday after the Danish pharmaceutical company presented its long-term strategy and financial ambitions at a capital markets day in London.

The company expects compound annual revenue growth between 2026 and 2030 to be in line with that of its industry peers, while maintaining a broadly stable operating margin. Both objectives are based on adjusted financial measures.

Novo Nordisk emphasised that the targets represent strategic ambitions rather than formal financial guidance.

Novo Nordisk aims to launch more than five medicines with the potential to achieve blockbuster sales across multiple indications by 2030.

The company also expects its risk-adjusted development pipeline, including existing pipeline assets, to generate more than DKK 150 billion in sales by 2035.

As part of its research and development strategy, Novo Nordisk intends to have at least five Phase 3 programmes in obesity and diabetes, alongside at least five additional late-stage programmes in other therapeutic areas.

The targets reflect the company's plans to expand its product portfolio beyond its existing treatments while continuing to develop medicines for metabolic diseases.

Novo Nordisk plans to expand its manufacturing and supply capacity to make oral GLP-1 treatments available to 10 times as many people with obesity.

The company also aims to reach more than 60 million patients globally by 2030.

Alongside its operational and development objectives, Novo Nordisk intends to maintain a dividend per share that it describes as attractive.

The company said its ambitions use 2026 as the baseline and are subject to inherent uncertainty. They should not be interpreted as financial guidance or a formal outlook.

For its revenue growth comparison, Novo Nordisk identified a group of major pharmaceutical companies comprising Eli Lilly, AstraZeneca, Gilead, Johnson & Johnson, AbbVie, Novartis, Sanofi, Roche, GSK, Amgen, Merck & Co., Biogen, Pfizer and Bristol Myers Squibb.

The company's objective is to achieve revenue growth broadly consistent with this group over the 2026-2030 period while keeping its adjusted operating margin relatively stable.
