The new port is expected to dramatically speed up crossings between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, making cross-border living more convenient

Prices for properties near the new Huanggang Port are already soaring months ahead of the border crossing being put into operation, with many buyers attracted by the idea of a “dual-city lifestyle”, according to property agents.

Located in Shenzhen’s Futian district, just across from the Lok Ma Chau control point in Hong Kong, the border crossing will create a “half-hour living circle” encompassing the two cities, leading to a surge in cross-border commuting, according to Henry Chung, senior managing director at Midland Realty.

Demand for housing near the border was rising among a range of different groups, including students and professionals looking to live in Shenzhen but travel into Hong Kong during the week, Chung said. The area was also expected to attract a growing number of retirees and scientific research personnel from Hong Kong, he added.
