What Happens To Reddit Stock If Search Keeps Sending Fewer People?

What Happens To Reddit Stock If Search Keeps Sending Fewer People?

Revenue grew 61% in Q2 2026, to $805 million, its eighth straight quarter of growth above 60%. The profit behind it is new: an operating margin of 28.2% over the past twelve months, at the high end of its multi-year range, against a three-year average of -15.0%.

Management puts the growth down to both pricing and impressions, and average revenue per unique user rose 36% year over year. Reddit is charging more for the audience it already has , helped by ad tools like Reddit Max and by the Dynamic Product Ads catalog. Daily users barely moved: product work added them in Q2 2026, and a decline in search referrals took them back, even as weekly reach grew past half a billion.

Search referrals were volatile through Q2 2026, and more so late in it. Management says its visibility there is low and expects the volatility to continue. By the CEO's account, the older search links delivered far more value to Reddit and to publishers than AI Overviews has so far. Reddit's data licensing relationships cover training, grounding and use as a search index, and the CEO says whether Reddit keeps licensing at all has a wide range of outcomes.

Growth has already stepped down. Management guided Q3 2026 revenue to 47% to 49% growth , against 61% in Q2 2026 and close to 70% in each of the three quarters before that.

Reddit's answer is to become a destination rather than a stop after a search result, and that work runs through the home feed. By the CEO's own account the feed is well behind: the models are much smaller than the state of the art, and they take in about 10% of the user activity available. Management frames it as a year of work.

There is early evidence it can work. New app user retention rose 50% year over year on a relative basis in Q2 2026, though management calls that a small base. Retention is the number to watch. The user picture is about to get harder to see too: Q2 2026 is the final quarter in which Reddit splits logged-in from logged-out daily users.

So how much should this worry you? The fall is already in the price, so slower growth in Q3 2026 is not the surprise. The open question is whether direct users grow fast enough to replace what search used to send. That question gets answered one quarter at a time. If you are weighing whether a fall this size is an opportunity or a warning , our dip-buying screen ranks the stocks the market has marked down.

A threat like the one above is a footnote for a diversified holder and a headline for a concentrated one. Concentration tends to arrive by accident rather than by decision.
