JPMorgan promotes APAC and EMEA tech bankers to lead international division

JPMorgan Chase has elevated its regional technology investment banking leaders in Asia and Europe to jointly oversee the international division, signaling a strategic push to integrate cross-border advisory for global technology clients.

JPMorgan Chase has restructured its international technology investment banking leadership by promoting its regional heads for Asia Pacific and Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Mark Fiteny and Matt Gehl will now serve as co-heads of the international technology division, according to an internal company memo reviewed on Tuesday.

The appointments place two veteran bankers with more than twenty years of experience each at the helm of the bank's global technology advisory efforts. Fiteny will continue operating from Hong Kong, where he previously led Asia Pacific technology, media, and telecom banking alongside new economy coverage. Gehl will remain in London, transitioning from his role leading the EMEA technology investment banking franchise.

This dual-leadership model consolidates the bank's non-US technology advisory capabilities under a single international umbrella. For institutional investors and corporate clients, the move suggests JPMorgan is prioritizing seamless cross-border deal execution. Technology companies increasingly navigate complex regulatory environments and capital markets across both Europe and Asia, requiring advisory teams that understand both regions intimately.

The bank also reshuffled its European technology leadership to support this broader international mandate. Pieter Himpe, who previously headed EMEA internet and tech services, has been promoted to co-head of EMEA technology investment banking.

Himpe will share the European regional leadership with veteran banker Bill Hutchings. A company spokesperson confirmed the broader leadership changes, which aim to provide unified support for technology clients operating on a global scale.

Consolidating regional technology banking heads into international co-head roles reflects the growing interconnectedness of global technology markets. By aligning the Hong Kong and London franchises directly, JPMorgan is positioning its advisory teams to capture cross-continental mergers, acquisitions, and equity capital raises. This structural adjustment ensures that the bank can compete more effectively for mandates from multinational technology firms seeking to optimize their global footprints.
