Indian Benchmarks Post Fourth Weekly Loss Amid Selective Equity Breakouts
Indian benchmark indices extended their recent correction amid elevated crude prices and global rate uncertainty, prompting analysts to isolate specific equities showing resilient technical momentum.
Indian stock markets concluded the week with a fourth consecutive decline, underscoring persistent weakness despite a muted intraday rebound on Friday. The Nifty 50 ended the period at 23,897.70, marking a 1.15 percent weekly drop, while the Sensex fell nearly 1.0 percent to finish at 76,515.43.
Market participants remain constrained by rising crude oil costs, fresh geopolitical friction, and unclear global interest-rate trajectories. These macroeconomic headwinds have fueled sustained foreign investor outflows, capping any broad-based recovery across the broader market.
Technical indicators suggest the overarching trend remains fragile. Sumeet Bagadia, Executive Director at Choice Broking, observed that the Nifty 50 printed a small bearish daily candlestick, signaling hesitation near resistance levels. The index currently trades below its 20, 50, 100, and 200-day exponential moving averages.
Immediate support sits in the 23,750 to 23,800 zone, with strong resistance expected between 24,000 and 24,050. Market volatility remains relatively subdued with the India VIX at 10.68, yet the Relative Strength Index (RSI) for the Nifty stood at 38.37, reflecting weak momentum.
The Bank Nifty index exhibited similar indecision, closing nearly flat at 57,369.65 after surrendering early session gains. Bagadia described the banking index's price action as a consolidation candlestick, reflecting an ongoing tug-of-war between buyers and sellers. The index must hold above the 57,000 to 57,100 support area to maintain structural stability.
Selective Technical Breakouts
Despite the cautious broader market, analysts are identifying specific equities demonstrating robust technical setups. Bagadia highlighted five stocks positioned for potential short-term gains, starting with TCPL Packaging, which trades comfortably above all major moving averages with an RSI of 62.80.
Global Health (Medanta) also presents a constructive profile, maintaining a structural uptrend since its April bottom near ₹956. Following a healthy consolidation from a recent high of ₹1,544, the stock is eyed for a move toward ₹1,590.
Other recommended names include Innova Captab, Greenply Industries, and Apl Apollo Tubes. While Innova Captab approaches its 52-week high with an overbought RSI of 74.58, Apl Apollo Tubes continues to display aggressive momentum following a sharp rally into September.
