Madhusudan Kela’s Top Five Equity Holdings Show Mixed August Performance

Market veteran Madhusudan Kela’s top five equity holdings posted mixed returns in August, offering investors a window into the performance of his nearly 2,568 crore rupee portfolio.

Market veteran Madhusudan Kela holds approximately 19 stocks valued at nearly 2,568 crore rupees, according to Trendlyne data, with his top five positions showing divergent performance during August. Quarterly shareholding data reveals his continued heavy concentration in financial services and manufacturing equities.

His largest disclosed position is a 7.2 percent stake in broking firm Choice International, comprising over 160 lakh shares at the end of the April-June quarter. Valued at roughly 1,244 crore rupees based on a previous close of 774.70 rupees, the stock declined more than 7 percent in August and 9 percent in 2026 to date, despite delivering 302 percent returns over three years.

Kela also maintains a dominant 74 percent stake in financing company Mkventures Capital, holding nearly 29 lakh shares worth approximately 297 crore rupees at 1,040 rupees per share. While the stock dropped more than 3 percent in August and 4 percent this year, it has surged 2,619 percent over a five-year horizon.

In the manufacturing sector, Kela holds a 6.4 percent stake in plastic processing machinery maker Windsor Machines. His holding of over 65 lakh shares is valued at more than 200 crore rupees, benefiting from a nearly 9 percent gain in August and a 15 percent rise in 2026, adding to a 927 percent five-year return.

Family holdings round out the top five, including a 4.86 percent stake in Sangam (India) worth over 143 crore rupees and a 2 percent stake in Indiabulls valued at more than 131 crore rupees. Although both stocks experienced recent weekly and monthly declines, they have rallied 16 percent and 52 percent respectively in 2026, underscoring their longer-term growth trajectory.

For market participants, Kela’s portfolio allocation signals continued conviction in specialized financial intermediaries and niche manufacturing plays. The mixed monthly performance against robust multi-year gains illustrates the volatility inherent in these segments, reminding investors to weigh short-term fluctuations against long-term compounding.
