Summary: Music distribution company Hitskope Music Group has unified distribution, marketing, rights management, publishing, sync licensing, and artist services into one operation. Founder Danny Barros and Grammy-winning partner Kitt Wakeley argue the hard part is no longer uploading a song, but getting it heard.
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Sept. 02, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Danny Barros was booking club shows before he was old enough to get into the clubs. Still in high school, he was packing rooms with the bands he loved, and most of the venue owners who called him to fill their floors had no idea the promoter pulling the crowds couldn't legally walk through the door himself. The arrangement was equal parts audacity and obsession, and it revealed something about him early: he understood how to gather an audience before he understood the business that audiences are built on.
"It wasn't really about selling out shows," Barros says. "I just wanted people to connect with these bands the way I did."
That instinct, the urge to put the right music in front of the right people, underpins Hitskope Music Group, the distribution company Barros runs today. The company is built on a single, deceptively simple belief: getting a song online stopped being the hard part years ago. The bottleneck has moved. Where artists once struggled just to be heard at all, the struggle now is to be noticed in a market where nearly anyone can publish instantly.
His first company, D-Squared Entertainment, grew directly out of that teenage hustle. What began as booking local acts turned into a multi-state promotion business, and the rooms got bigger as the roster did. Along the way, the company staged shows for Snoop Dogg, Ed Sheeran, Steve Aoki, and Chris Brown, names that signaled how far the operation had traveled from packing local venues. Barros eventually sold the business to a Live Nation affiliate, closing the live-events chapter of his career.
He then launched the first version of Hitskope, a label built on a different set of principles than the ones that govern much of the industry: short-term licensing rather than indefinite control, partnership economics rather than lopsided deals, and, above all, artists retaining ownership of their work. That structure proved durable enough to lead to a joint venture with Sony, and it locked in a conviction Barros has carried ever since. Build the audience first, he reasoned, and everything else, the deals, the revenue, the infrastructure, can be assembled around it rather than ahead of it.
A separate part of the platform, FanCut, extends that thinking to the audience. It lets fans share in royalties and take a stake in the artists they back, turning listeners into participants with something at stake.
Hitskope's leadership bench reflects the same priority. It includes people who came up through Atlantic, Elektra, EMI/Capitol, Sony RED, Downtown Records, 300 Entertainment, and Alamo Records, with Grammys and billion-stream catalogs to their credit. The throughline is experience that predates the platform itself. Barros's point is plain: putting music online isn't the challenge anymore. Getting it heard is.
