Credo Technology shares drop despite Q1 earnings beat and strong AI revenue growth

Credo Technology reported a sharp rise in first-quarter revenue and earnings, but its stock declined as investors demand even higher performance from artificial intelligence infrastructure providers.

Credo Technology shares fell more than 4% following its fiscal first-quarter earnings announcement. The decline occurred even though the company reported revenue and earnings that exceeded Wall Street estimates.

First-quarter revenue jumped 115% from a year earlier to reach $479 million. Adjusted earnings came in at $1.20 per share, surpassing analyst expectations of $1.16 to $1.17.

This financial performance was driven by sustained demand for the company’s connectivity products. These components are critical for artificial intelligence data centres managing expanding data volumes while maintaining energy efficiency and network performance.

Looking ahead, the company provided a robust outlook for the fiscal second quarter. Management expects revenue to land between $525 million and $535 million, with the midpoint exceeding current analyst forecasts and indicating continued sequential growth.

Margin scrutiny amid high expectations

Despite the top-line momentum, profitability metrics drew close attention from the market. The adjusted gross margin for the first quarter stood at 68%, a slight dip from 68.3% in the preceding quarter.

Guidance for the second quarter projects an adjusted gross margin between 67% and 69%. This range keeps operational efficiency squarely in focus for institutional investors.

The muted market reaction underscores the elevated expectations surrounding artificial intelligence infrastructure stocks. Delivering triple-digit growth is no longer sufficient to guarantee a positive trading response when valuations already price in near-flawless execution.

Moving forward, market participants will closely monitor whether the company can sustain this rapid expansion. Maintaining both revenue momentum and healthy profit margins will be essential as the sector faces increasingly stringent performance benchmarks.
