ACG Metals begins copper concentrate production at Gediktepe mine
London-listed ACG Metals has produced its first copper concentrate at the Gediktepe mine in Turkey, pivoting toward the electrification-driven red metal market while targeting 40,000 annual tonnes at steady state.
London-listed ACG Metals (LON: ACG) has achieved initial copper concentrate output at its Gediktepe operation in Turkey on budget. This milestone represents a strategic pivot away from its historical focus on zinc and precious metals. It establishes the operational baseline for the company's newest commodity stream and validates its capital allocation strategy.
The transition arrives as global consumption patterns for the red metal undergo a structural shift driven by widespread electrification and artificial intelligence infrastructure. By reallocating its production profile toward copper, the miner is aligning its asset base with long-term macroeconomic tailwinds. These technological advancements are fundamentally accelerating global demand for base metals over traditional precious metals.
The facility now enters a critical ramp-up phase dedicated to optimizing plant performance and increasing material throughput. ACG Metals has set a definitive timeline to reach full production capacity by the end of 2026. Once the operation achieves a steady state, the Gediktepe site is projected to yield 40,000 tonnes of copper annually.
Executive leadership emphasized a methodical approach to scaling operations rather than rushing output. “Our priority is now a disciplined ramp-up, progressively increasing throughput and recoveries, delivering consistent concentrate quality and advancing towards steady-state production,” said Artem Volynets, chairman and chief executive.
For equity investors, the successful launch de-risks the company's expansion into a higher-demand commodity class. The Gediktepe site's evolution from a single-stream gold, silver, and zinc asset highlights the broader mining sector's necessary adaptation to the global energy transition. Market participants will now monitor throughput metrics closely as the company executes its 2026 production targets.
