Adani Energy Wins ₹4,700 Crore Maharashtra Transmission Contract

Adani Energy Solutions secured a ₹4,700 crore contract to build high-voltage grid infrastructure in Maharashtra, driving a share price rally and expanding the conglomerate's footprint in India's renewable energy transition.

Adani Energy Solutions has secured a ₹4,700 crore contract to build a major transmission network in Maharashtra. The company won the network expansion scheme near Satara through a tariff-based competitive bidding process as the lowest bidder.

The infrastructure will facilitate the evacuation of up to 4.5 gigawatts of pumped storage potential and strengthen the corridor between the Western and Southern power grids. By moving renewable energy from Karnataka to major load centres in Maharashtra, the project underlines the growing capital expenditure required to modernize India's power network for clean energy integration.

Investors reacted positively to the contract award, triggering strong buying interest in Adani Energy Solutions shares. The stock climbed to an intraday high of ₹1,634.90 on the National Stock Exchange, moving closer to its all-time peak of ₹1,789.

Executed through the special purpose vehicle Satara Power Transmission Ltd, the project must be completed within 36 months. It will add 562 circuit kilometres of transmission lines and 9,000 MVA of transformation capacity to the company's existing portfolio.

Upon completion, Adani Energy Solutions will operate a cumulative transmission network spanning 29,739 circuit kilometres. The total transformation capacity will reach 1,43,425 MVA, reinforcing its position in the utility infrastructure sector.

In a regulatory filing, the company noted the project will support the growing pumped storage ecosystem across the Satara, Pune, and Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The estimated capital expenditure of ₹4,700 crore reflects the scale of investment needed to connect regional generation hubs with urban demand centres.

Kandarp Patel, chief executive of Adani Energy Solutions, emphasized the role of such infrastructure in the national decarbonization strategy. "Pumped storage projects are emerging as a critical enabler of India's clean energy transition by providing the flexibility and reliability required to integrate large-scale renewable energy into the grid," Patel said.

He added that the Satara project will create a vital transmission backbone to support both renewable energy evacuation and energy storage deployment. "AESL remains committed to building future-ready transmission infrastructure that enables renewable energy growth, enhances grid stability and supports India's long-term decarbonisation goals," the chief executive stated.

Planned physical assets include a 765/400 KV substation at Satara and a double-circuit line to Kolhapur, alongside upgrades to the Kolhapur pooling station. This contract win solidifies the conglomerate's pipeline of regulated asset projects and signals continued investor appetite for companies positioned to benefit from India's grid modernization.
