Indian Equities Set for Higher Open as Easing Gulf Tensions Cools Oil Prices

Indian benchmark indices are poised for a positive opening as diplomatic progress in the Strait of Hormuz drives down crude prices, easing inflation concerns and boosting risk appetite.

Indian stock markets are positioned for a higher opening on Wednesday, driven by positive global cues and a sharp retreat in crude oil prices. The Gift Nifty indicated a gap-up start, trading at a premium of approximately 88 points to the previous close of domestic futures.

This follows a resilient previous session where the Sensex gained 286.98 points, or 0.37%, to settle at 77,656.09. The Nifty 50 advanced 115.50 points, or 0.48%, closing firmly above the 24,300 level at 24,334.55.

The drop in energy costs stems from renewed diplomatic efforts between Iran and Oman to establish a temporary joint maritime corridor in the Strait of Hormuz. Concurrently, US President Donald Trump stated that all mines in the waterway’s international waters had been cleared, though he warned that any vessel placing new mines would be “immediately and systematically destroyed”.

For Indian investors, the cooling of crude prices provides a critical near-term tailwind. Ponmudi R, CEO of Enrich Money, noted that the decline in oil, coupled with falling US Treasury yields and a Wall Street rebound, has significantly improved the backdrop for risk assets after weeks of inflation-driven anxiety.

Despite the optimistic macroeconomic backdrop, technical analysts urge disciplined risk management. Ajit Mishra, Senior Vice President of Research at Religare Broking, highlighted that the Nifty 50 is testing trendline support near 24,100. A decisive break below the 24,100 to 24,000 zone could extend the correction toward 23,650.

The Bank Nifty similarly remains range-bound, with immediate resistance at the 57,800 to 58,000 level and critical support at 57,000. Amid persistent geopolitical volatility, market experts are advising a stock-specific approach, highlighting selective intraday opportunities in names such as Indus Towers, Laurus Labs, and Coal India.
