Gaja Alternative Asset Management lists on Indian bourses after oversubscribed IPO

Gaja Alternative Asset Management begins trading on Indian exchanges today following a heavily oversubscribed public offering, highlighting sustained investor appetite for mid-market alternative asset managers in the region.

Gaja Alternative Asset Management is set to list its shares on the National Stock Exchange and Bombay Stock Exchange today. The initial public offering attracted robust demand, closing with an overall subscription rate of 31.33 times.

Qualified Institutional Buyers drove the momentum, subscribing to their allotted portion 43.58 times. Non-Institutional Investors followed with a 62.35 times subscription, while the retail segment was subscribed 11.04 times.

The Rs 550 crore offering, managed by book-running lead manager JM Financial Ltd, was priced at the upper end of the Rs 152 to Rs 160 per share band. It comprised a fresh issue of Rs 450 crore and an offer for sale valued at Rs 100 crore, with MUFG Intime India Pvt. Ltd. acting as registrar. Pre-market indicators suggest a positive debut, with the grey market premium standing at Rs 19, implying an estimated listing price of around Rs 179 per share.

The company plans to deploy the net proceeds from the fresh issue primarily to fortify its investment commitments. Approximately Rs 372 crore will fund sponsor commitments across existing and proposed vehicles, including the Gaja Capital India Fund 2020 series, the upcoming Fund V, and a new Secondaries Fund, while also retiring bridge debt.

This capital infusion follows a period of solid financial expansion for the firm. In the 2026 fiscal year, total income climbed 28 percent year-on-year to Rs 157.80 crore, up from Rs 123.31 crore in FY25. Profit after tax mirrored this trajectory, rising 32 percent to Rs 81.96 crore.

Founded in 1999, Gaja manages Category I and II Alternative Investment Funds alongside offshore vehicles targeting Indian mid-market opportunities. The firm has built a track record across multiple fund cycles and maintains investor relationships across more than 20 countries. Its portfolio spans education, energy, financial services, consumer businesses, and digital technology.

The strong institutional backing and healthy pre-market premium signal growing confidence in specialized alternative asset managers. As the firm scales its fund lineup, market participants will watch closely to see if the listing valuation holds amid broader macroeconomic shifts affecting private capital deployment.
