Indian Equities Advance as Axis Bank Clears SEBI Probe and Groww Schedules Block Deal

Indian equities reclaimed key technical support levels amid a wave of corporate developments, including regulatory clearance for Axis Bank and a major stake sale at fintech platform Groww, signaling shifting investor sentiment across diverse sectors.

Indian equity markets regained technical momentum, with the Nifty reclaiming its 20-day exponential moving average after a period of underperformance. Market analysts note that the Relative Strength Index has entered a bullish crossover, pointing to improving short-term momentum. Resistance is now projected between 24,400 and 24,480, with immediate support holding at 24,240.

In a significant regulatory development, Axis Bank announced that the Securities and Exchange Board of India has closed all proceedings against the lender and its subsidiaries. The final order, dated August 24, 2026, resolved a show cause notice originally issued in October 2024 without imposing any penalties or directives. This clearance removes a lingering overhang for the bank, providing reassurance to institutional investors regarding its compliance framework.

Fintech platform Groww is preparing for a substantial shift in its shareholder structure. Existing investor Ribbit Capital is expected to execute a block deal to sell approximately a 1.6 percent stake in the company. The transaction is valued at roughly ₹1,914 crore, with a floor price of ₹195 per share, representing a 4 percent discount to the recent closing price.

Strategic Diversification and Expansion

Varun Beverages is moving beyond its traditional non-alcoholic portfolio. The company’s board has approved the creation of a wholly owned subsidiary, KIVA Spirits and Company Limited, to manufacture and sell ready-to-drink alcoholic beverages. This strategic pivot, pending regulatory approvals, positions the bottler to capture higher-margin segments in the evolving Indian consumer market.

Pharmaceutical manufacturer Cipla faces new regulatory scrutiny after receiving seven inspectional observations on Form 483 from the US Food and Drug Administration. The observations followed a current Good Manufacturing Practices inspection at the company’s Pithampur facility in Madhya Pradesh conducted in late August. Investors will monitor whether these observations require costly remedial actions or impact US export timelines.

Corporate activity remained broad across other sectors. Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles partnered with Tata Communications to integrate built-in 5G connectivity into its newly launched Sierra.ev electric vehicle. Meanwhile, the government’s offer for sale in Hindustan Copper attracted robust non-retail demand, subscribing 3.41 times the 2.61 crore shares on offer at a floor price of ₹514.

In the energy sector, the Supreme Court deferred a hearing on a plea by Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company against an order requiring it to pay approximately ₹600 crore to JSW Energy over a tariff dispute. Additionally, Data Patterns agreed to acquire ST Advanced Composites for about ₹10 crore, combining an equity purchase and liability settlement to expand its manufacturing footprint.
