Sunshine Pictures IPO draws 105-fold subscription with 22% grey market premium
Sunshine Pictures has concluded a heavily oversubscribed initial public offering, signaling strong investor appetite for Indian media assets despite a recent decline in the production company's top-line revenue.
Sunshine Pictures has completed the allotment process for its Rs 282.14 crore initial public offering, which was open for subscription from August 18 to August 20. The content producer is scheduled to make its market debut on the BSE and NSE on August 25, 2026.
Investor demand was robust across all categories, with the issue subscribed 105.81 times overall. The non-institutional investor segment led the surge at 197.04 times, followed by qualified institutional buyers at 123.52 times and the retail portion at 56.60 times.
The capital raise comprises a fresh issue of 48 lakh shares valued at Rs 172.80 crore. Additionally, the offer for sale component includes 30 lakh shares amounting to Rs 109.34 crore.
In the unofficial grey market, the shares are currently commanding a premium of Rs 80. This suggests a potential listing price of approximately Rs 440 per share, representing a 22 percent gain over the IPO’s upper price band of Rs 360.
The strong market reception contrasts with the company’s recent top-line contraction. For the fiscal year 2026, total income declined 28 percent to Rs 76.27 crore from Rs 105.80 crore in the previous year.
However, bottom-line metrics improved during the same period. Profit after tax increased 16 percent to Rs 40.02 crore, up from Rs 34.46 crore in FY25, indicating enhanced operational efficiency.
Incorporated in 2007, Sunshine Pictures has produced commercial films including the Commando franchise and The Kerala Story. The company is currently expanding its pipeline with two films co-produced alongside Jio Studios and a web series for Doordarshan.
The firm is also pushing into digital platforms, reporting 9.18 crore YouTube views and over 104,000 combined followers on Instagram and Facebook as of June 30, 2026. Despite this digital footprint, the company operates with a lean team of just 28 full-time employees.
