Indian Equities Set for Gap-Up Opening Amid Cautious Global Sentiment
Indian benchmark indices are poised for a gap-up opening driven by technical breakouts, though elevated crude prices and global risk aversion continue to test investor conviction.
Indian equity markets are signaling a positive start to the trading session, with the Gift Nifty index trading around 24,325. This represents a gain of nearly 90 points above the previous spot Nifty 50 close, indicating an immediate gap-up opening for Dalal Street.
Despite this technical relief, broader market sentiment remains cautious. Elevated crude oil prices and renewed global risk aversion continue to weigh on investor appetite, capping the potential for a sustained rally without further fundamental catalysts.
Vaishali Parekh, Vice President of Technical Research at Prabhudas Lilladher, noted that the Nifty 50 recently witnessed a gap-up opening above the 24,225 zone before moving decisively past its 100-day exponential moving average (DEMA) at 24,211. She identified the 24,400 zone as a critical hurdle that must be breached to establish clearer market conviction in the coming days. Major support for the broader index remains positioned near the 24,000 zone, which must be respected to keep the overall positive bias intact.
The financial sector index similarly demonstrated an improving bias after registering positive gains and closing above the 57,450 level. Parekh stated that the Bank Nifty must sustain trading above the 58,000 zone in upcoming sessions to confirm this positive shift. She noted that near-term support sits at the 50-DEMA level of 57,200, projecting a daily trading range between 57,000 and 58,000 for the index.
For intraday traders navigating this cautious environment, Parekh highlighted three specific equities positioned for near-term gains. She recommended buying Hindustan Zinc at ₹573.90, setting a price target of ₹600 and a strict stop loss at ₹562.
Additionally, DCB Bank was flagged for purchase at ₹188.60, targeting ₹200 with a protective stop loss of ₹184. Glenmark Pharma was also recommended as a buy at ₹2,332, aiming for a target of ₹2,450 with a stop loss at ₹2,290.
