Barcelona to sign Bisiwu for €10m as it targets expiring contracts
FC Barcelona has agreed to a €10 million deal for Clube Brugge winger Jesse Bisiwu, deploying a strategy of targeting players entering their final contract year to secure talent at a discount.
FC Barcelona has reached a "total agreement" to sign 18-year-old winger Jesse Bisiwu from Clube Brugge for $11.4 million (€10 million). The deal includes a 30% sell-on clause for the Belgian club, with the player expected to travel to Barcelona next week for a medical.
The transfer structure underscores a calculated acquisition strategy by Barcelona's management. Because Bisiwu’s contract expires in June 2027, Clube Brugge was forced into a sale to avoid a total loss of the asset. By waiting out the Belgian club over six months of negotiations, Barcelona secured the player at a heavily discounted rate compared to a typical multi-year deal. The 30% sell-on clause mitigates some risk for Brugge, allowing them to share in any future capital appreciation of the player.
This approach of targeting players approaching free agency is yielding further deals. Barcelona is nearing an agreement for Borussia Dortmund winger Karim Adeyemi, who is also tied to his current club only until June 2027. That proposed transfer is valued at $25 million, with an additional $8 million in performance-related variables.
These targeted acquisitions contrast with Barcelona's earlier spending in the same window. The club previously committed $80 million to acquire Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United. The combined activity indicates that Sporting Director Deco and manager Hansi Flick are rapidly overhauling the squad's flank options through a mix of premium market purchases and below-market acquisitions.
This influx of wide players has clear implications for Barcelona's outbound transfer business. Raphinha, a current starter, is attracting interest from Saudi Arabian buyers. Selling the Brazilian would likely generate a significant capital injection that could effectively balance the club's summer spending, turning a squad rebuild into a financially neutral exercise.
From an asset management perspective, Bisiwu will initially be assigned to Juliano Belletti’s Barca Atletic reserve team. However, he will integrate with Hansi Flick’s senior squad during preseason. Given Flick’s stated preference for pace and directness to support Lamine Yamal, a strong performance could immediately elevate Bisiwu to the first team, rapidly increasing his market value.
