Gift Nifty Points to Flat Indian Market Open Amid Middle East Oil Concerns

Indian benchmark indices are poised for a cautious start as rising Middle East crude prices weigh on sentiment, prompting analysts to highlight specific sectoral buying opportunities.

Indian equity markets are expected to open flat to slightly negative on Tuesday as escalating Middle East tensions drive up crude oil prices. The Gift Nifty index is trading around 24,300, approximately 70 points below its previous close of 24,375. This level sits just above the spot Nifty’s prior close of 24,287, signaling a tentative start for domestic traders.

Vaishali Parekh, Vice President of Technical Research at Prabhudas Lilladher, anticipates this muted opening following a volatile recent session. The Nifty 50 recently dipped to 24,225 before recovering to the 24,300 zone, indicating a gradually weakening bias. Parekh notes that the index will rely on critical support at the 24,000 level to stage a meaningful revival.

Upside momentum remains capped in the near term for the broader market. The 200-period moving average at the 24,700 zone represents a formidable resistance hurdle that the benchmark must decisively cross to alter its current trajectory.

The Bank Nifty index is exhibiting a cautiously positive stance despite hovering in a tight range. It remains anchored near its 200-period moving average of 57,500 while successfully sustaining levels above the 50-EMA at 57,200.

For the banking index to maintain its trend, it must hold the major support positioned near the 100-period moving average at 56,000. Conversely, a decisive breach above the 58,600 resistance zone is required to trigger the next leg of upward movement.

Amid broader market caution, Parekh identified three equities positioned for near-term gains. Chennai Petroleum Corporation is recommended with a buy price of ₹1,382, a target of ₹1,450, and a stop loss at ₹1,335.

Godrej Properties is also flagged for accumulation, with a suggested entry at ₹2,054 and a price target of ₹2,150. The stop loss for this real estate stock is set at ₹2,010.

TVS Motor Company rounds out the recommendations. Analysts advise buying at ₹4,385, aiming for a target of ₹4,560, while maintaining a stop loss at ₹4,300 to manage downside risk.

These targeted recommendations reflect a strategy of navigating sectoral strengths while broader indices consolidate. Investors are advised to treat these technical levels as guidance and consult certified financial experts before executing trades.
