Molbio Diagnostics debuts at 21 percent premium on Indian exchanges
The diagnostics firm priced its shares at a 21 percent premium to the issue price, signaling robust investor appetite for healthcare technology despite broader market weakness.
Molbio Diagnostics shares began trading on the Bombay Stock Exchange and National Stock Exchange on Monday at ₹980. This opening price represents a 21.44 percent premium to the issue price of ₹807, outperforming broader market sentiment.
Initial trading gains quickly faded as investors moved to lock in profits. The stock retreated to ₹925.80 on the BSE and ₹926.35 on the NSE shortly after the opening bell. The final listing still exceeded grey market expectations, which had priced in a ₹120 premium for a ₹927 debut.
The offering comprised a fresh issue of 2,480,246 shares worth ₹200 crore and an offer for sale of 9,166,000 shares valued at ₹739.70 crore. Strong retail and institutional demand drove the issue to an overall subscription of more than 70 times. The retail portion alone was booked 13 times during the August 10 to 12 subscription window.
Proceeds from the fresh issue will fund a new research and development facility and center of excellence. This infrastructure will be operated by Bigtec, a wholly-owned subsidiary, alongside connected office space. The company will also deploy capital to purchase plant and machinery for its manufacturing units in Goa and Visakhapatnam.
The underlying financial performance provides a foundation for this valuation. Molbio Diagnostics reported operating revenue of ₹1,445.69 crore for the fiscal year 2026, a significant increase from ₹1,020.42 crore the previous year and ₹836.56 crore in fiscal 2024. Net profit attributable to parent owners grew to ₹164.14 crore in fiscal 2026, up from ₹138.58 crore in fiscal 2025 and ₹83.54 crore in fiscal 2024.
This consistent growth in both top-line and bottom-line metrics likely fueled the heavy oversubscription. The Goa-based enterprise specializes in point-of-care diagnostics for infectious and non-communicable diseases. Its ability to command a strong listing premium highlights continued market confidence in specialized healthcare providers scaling their operations.
Kotak Mahindra Capital, IIFL Capital Services, Jefferies India, and Motilal Oswal Investment Advisors managed the book-running process for the issue. KFin Technologies served as the registrar. The successful debut offers a positive signal for upcoming healthcare listings in a market that has recently shown mixed sentiment.
