Behari Lal Engineering Allotment Follows 108x Oversubscribed Indian IPO

The specialized steel manufacturer is set to finalize its share allocation ahead of an August 19 debut, highlighting robust institutional appetite for India's capital goods sector.

Behari Lal Engineering is finalizing its initial public offering allotment today ahead of a scheduled August 19 debut on the BSE and NSE. The share sale drew massive interest during its August 12 to August 14 subscription window, reflecting strong market appetite for specialized industrial manufacturers in India.

Institutional investors drove the overwhelming demand, with qualified institutional buyers oversubscribing their portion 165.33 times. Non-institutional investors matched this enthusiasm at 165.32 times, while the retail segment was subscribed 53.27 times, pushing the overall issue to 108.44 times its size.

The heavy subscription has fueled expectations for a strong market debut, with shares trading in the unofficial grey market at a premium of roughly 30 percent. This Rs 84 premium over the upper price band of Rs 285 suggests an indicative listing price of Rs 369, though actual trading will depend on broader market sentiment on debut day.

For investors looking past immediate listing gains, the manufacturer's capital allocation strategy offers a clearer picture of its long-term operational focus. Proceeds from the fresh issue will fund new machinery, civil works, and rooftop solar installations across its two manufacturing units in Mandi Gobindgarh, Punjab.

Crucially, a portion of the raised capital is earmarked for the repayment and prepayment of existing corporate borrowings. This debt reduction, combined with capacity upgrades, positions the 1995-incorporated firm to improve its balance sheet while servicing its substantial backlog.

Behari Lal enters the public markets with a robust order book valued at Rs 1,785.69 million as of late May 2026. Its precision-engineered components, including metal rolls and alloy steel products, supply a diversified base of 1,825 domestic and international clients, including Shyam Metallics and Energy and Metso India.

Emkay Global Financial Services acted as the book-running lead manager for the heavily oversubscribed issue. MUFG Intime India is serving as the registrar, managing the final allocation and credit of shares to successful applicants prior to the listing.
