Bank of America to deploy $250bn in US infrastructure

Bank of America to deploy $250bn in US infrastructure

Bank of America is committing $250 billion over 18 months to finance US data centers and energy projects, signaling how Wall Street is racing to fund the country's AI and power modernization boom.

Bank of America will deploy $250 billion between January 2026 and July 2027 to finance US digital and energy infrastructure. The bank's "Critical Infrastructure Finance Initiative" encompasses primary lending, capital markets services, and advisory work across three main sectors.

The capital will flow toward digital infrastructure like AI data centers and computing facilities. It also targets energy and power networks, including renewable generation and storage, alongside core infrastructure covering transportation and natural gas.

The capital allocation reflects a strategic shift by major US financial institutions to capture the financing demands of the artificial intelligence buildout. Building AI data centers requires not just computing capital, but massive upgrades to the power grid, renewable energy generation, and critical mineral mining. By grouping these together, Bank of America is treating the AI boom as a holistic infrastructure challenge rather than a standalone technology play.

This strategy mirrors a broader Wall Street trend. Just days ago, Morgan Stanley announced it would facilitate roughly $1.5 trillion over the next decade for technology and infrastructure projects. Bank of America's 18-month deployment window contrasts with Morgan Stanley's 10-year timeline, highlighting different approaches to capturing the same underlying demand.

Executing this strategy relies on moving beyond simple corporate loans. "Meeting America's growing infrastructure needs requires mobilizing capital at scale across increasingly interconnected sectors," said Karen Fang, co-head of global capital solutions at Bank of America.

"Delivering these projects requires integrated financing solutions spanning corporate and project-level capital in both public and private markets." Fang noted that these infrastructure categories are increasingly intertwined, requiring the bank to coordinate across different areas of its business rather than handling them in isolation.

The 18-month deployment period runs from January 1, 2026, through July 4, 2027, aligning with the start of America's 250th year. Bank of America projects the financing will bolster domestic economic growth and create tens of thousands of jobs.
