Ethereum Foundation Expands Board as It Pivots to Stewardship Role
The Ethereum Foundation has appointed security researcher pcaversaccio to its board, signalling a strategic shift toward long-term stewardship as the organisation behind the world's second-largest blockchain undergoes a major leadership overhaul.
The Ethereum Foundation has appointed prominent security researcher pcaversaccio, widely known as "pc", to its board of directors. The addition expands the foundation's leadership group to four members, joining President Aya Miyaguchi, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, and Swiss legal counsel Patrick Storchenegger. Pcaversaccio will serve an initial one-year voluntary term.
The new board member co-founded the emergency response initiative SEAL 911 and has a long history as an ecosystem contributor. He previously advised the foundation through its Silviculture Society, an informal group that guides the preservation of core principles like censorship resistance, open-source development, privacy, and security.
The board is tasked with setting the strategic vision of the foundation and ensuring management aligns with its stated values. It also functions as a "security council" to safeguard the organisation's mission and oversee compliance with Swiss law, where the foundation is based. For market participants, robust governance at the foundation is a critical consideration given the entity's substantial influence over the protocol's development and resource allocation.
This appointment arrives during a period of significant transition for the foundation. Several high-profile researchers and executives have departed in recent months. Rather than filling those roles directly, the foundation is allowing ecosystem talent to spin out into new, independent Ethereum-focused organisations. This structural shift marks a deliberate decentralisation of development efforts away from a single entity.
By bringing in a specialized security researcher, the foundation is reinforcing its commitment to network resilience as it steps back from day-to-day development. The strategic pivot aims to make the broader ecosystem more resilient by reducing its reliance on a centralised organisation, a structural change investors will monitor closely.
