SBI Funds Management opens Rs 11,693 crore IPO at 16% grey market premium
SBI Funds Management has launched a Rs 11,692.91 crore share sale, offering investors exposure to India’s largest asset manager amid strong institutional demand and a robust grey market premium.
SBI Funds Management opens its initial public offering tomorrow, seeking to raise Rs 11,692.91 crore. The asset manager has fixed a price band of Rs 545 to Rs 574 per equity share for the listing.
The issue is structured entirely as an offer for sale comprising 20.37 crore equity shares. Because the company itself is not issuing new equity, it will not receive any capital from the exercise. All proceeds will accrue directly to the selling shareholders: parent lender State Bank of India and its joint venture partner Amundi India Holding.
Demand appears firmly established ahead of the public subscription. The firm already raised Rs 1,655 crore in a pre-IPO placement, allocating 2.88 crore shares to 30 institutional investors. Kotak Mahindra Capital Co. Ltd. is managing the issue, with Kfin Technologies Ltd. serving as registrar.
Unofficial grey market activity points to significant retail interest, with a premium of Rs 89 indicating an expected listing price near Rs 663. This represents a roughly 16% jump over the upper price band if the sentiment holds through the stock's market debut.
The listing provides a benchmark valuation for India’s rapidly expanding asset management sector. Established in 1992, SBI Funds Management operates as the investment arm of State Bank of India through the SBI Mutual Fund joint venture. It offers a range of investment vehicles, including equity, debt, and hybrid funds, alongside exchange-traded funds and portfolio management services.
The firm commanded roughly 15.5% of India's total mutual fund assets under management as of 2025. It managed approximately Rs 16.32 lakh crore in assets at that time, serving more than 16.05 million individual and institutional investors as of December 31, 2025.
The firm's financial performance demonstrates the operating leverage inherent in the asset management business. Net profit surged 21% year-on-year to Rs 3,068 crore in fiscal year 2026, accelerating from Rs 2,540 crore in FY25 and Rs 2,073 crore in FY24.
Retail investors can bid for a minimum of 26 shares, requiring an outlay of Rs 14,924 at the top end of the price band. The offering tests market appetite for Indian financial assets at a time when the country's mutual fund industry continues to see substantial inflows.
