Braves Release Farmer to Activate $23M Outfielder Yastrzemski

Yastrzemski's return is the primary driver of this transaction. Atlanta signed the outfielder to a two-year, $23 million contract in the offseason, making him a significant fixed cost on the team's payroll. By contrast, Farmer had become an expendable asset. The 35-year-old initially signed a minor league deal but was moved to a split contract paying a $1.25 million salary in the majors to prevent an opt-out. The Braves' infield calculus left Farmer without a viable path to playing time.
