Alpine Texworld lists flat at ₹105, missing grey market expectations

Alpine Texworld's shares listed flat at their issue price, reflecting tepid institutional demand for the Indian textile manufacturer's ₹126.25 crore capital raise.

Alpine Texworld made an unremarkable debut on India's National Stock Exchange and Bombay Stock Exchange today, listing at ₹105 per share. This matched the upper end of its issue price band, falling short of the ₹1 grey market premium that had anticipated a 0.95% listing gain.

The flat pricing reflected cautious demand from institutional backers during the bidding window. While the overall issue was subscribed 1.40 times, this masked a stark divergence in investor appetite. Qualified institutional buyers and non-institutional investors barely covered their respective portions at 1.09 times each.

Retail investors carried the entire offering. Their reserved category was subscribed 1.53 times, absorbing a significant portion of the 1.68 crore shares bid for against the 1.20 crore on offer. This retail-heavy demand structure stems from the company's allocation strategy, which reserved 70% of the book for individual investors, 29% for non-institutional investors, and just 1% for institutional funds.

The manufacturer priced its 100% fresh issue of 1.20 crore shares at ₹100 to ₹105 to raise a total of ₹126.25 crore without an offer for sale. Founded in February 2016, Alpine Texworld processes cotton and blended yarn across two existing facilities equipped with 112 high-speed looms. It currently operates with an installed capacity of 6,000 metric tonnes annually, producing denim, suiting, shirting, and ready-for-dyeing fabrics for garment makers. The company plans to use the new capital to build a third weaving unit in Ahmedabad to boost grey fabric output. Remaining funds will go toward debt repayment and general corporate purposes.

For the broader market, the flat listing underscores a selective approach to new issuances in India's textile sector. Despite securing the necessary capital for its capacity expansion plans, the absence of a first-day premium suggests investors are valuing the company strictly on its current fundamentals. The minimum investment requirement for retail participants was set at ₹14,910 for a single lot of 142 shares. D&A Financial Services managed the issue, with KFin Technologies serving as registrar.
