Tata Sons pays Rs 4,475 crore in annual dividends; hypothetical investment could generate Rs 82,000 crore for philanthropy, says Harsh Goenka
RPG Enterprises Chairman Harsh Goenka shared a hypothetical thought experiment on X regarding Tata Sons. He noted that selling Tata Sons' Rs 11.68 lakh crore listed equity portfolio and reinvesting in 6-7% safe yield instruments could generate up to Rs 82,000 crore annually for philanthropy, compared to its current Rs 4,475 crore dividend.
Just a thought experiment:Tata Sons pays a dividend of around ₹4,475 crore a year. Suppose its ₹11.68 lakh crore listed equity portfolio were sold and invested in safe instruments yielding 6-7%, it could generate an annual income of ₹70,000-82,000 cr, potentially all available for philanthropy and social good.I am certainly not suggesting this. Just a hypothetical thought worth pondering.
