The Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS) has called on its workforce and taxpayers to embrace a culture of service delivery that goes beyond the minimum, as the agency commenced its 2026 Customer Service Week on Monday. The week-long programme, which runs from October 5 to 9, is being held under the theme, “The Extra Mile,” with the Service seeking to deepen public confidence, improve taxpayer experience and strengthen the culture of professionalism within the revenue administration system. John Osirenimhe Odior, Executive Chairman of EIRS, in a goodwill message to mark the week, said the occasion was an opportunity to recognise the commitment of the agency’s workforce to delivering quality services to both internal and external customers. Odior commended the staff for their professionalism, diligence and commitment to excellence, noting that their daily interactions with taxpayers have an important bearing on public perception and confidence in the revenue service. He said staff, whether working directly with taxpayers or operating behind the scenes, had continued to contribute to the growth and credibility of the institution through courtesy, integrity and commitment to their responsibilities. “Whether on the front line or behind the scenes, your efforts have strengthened public confidence in our institution,” Odior said, while saluting the workforce for consistently rising above the call of duty. The EIRS chairman also commended taxpayers across Edo State for their voluntary compliance, patience and constructive feedback, describing them as important partners in the state’s revenue administration. According to him, taxpayers’ compliance provides the resources required to support the delivery of essential public services, including schools, hospitals, roads and other government infrastructure. He said the Service remained conscious of the trust placed in it by taxpayers and would continue to pursue revenue administration anchored on efficiency, transparency, accountability and respect. Odior said the theme of this year’s Customer Service Week reflected the standard the EIRS was setting for itself, stressing that going the extra mile should translate into practical improvements in how taxpayers interact with the agency. He said this included resolving complaints promptly, anticipating taxpayers’ needs and treating every engagement as an opportunity to improve the customer experience. The EIRS boss urged staff and other stakeholders to use the week to recognise outstanding service, celebrate achievements and renew their commitment to continuous improvement.
